Interview with Ricardo Ramirez
Ricardo created the comic below to show how the #inthesameboat logo starts conversations.
Please tell us something about yourself:
Hello, my name is Ricardo. I’m an artist from Costa Rica, where I was born, and it’s a country I love. I have always been passionate about art in various forms like illustrations, cartoons, character design, and comics. Art allows me to communicate emotions and messages, tell stories, and connect with others. The diverse wildlife and landscapes of my country have influenced my work with a sense of color and positiveness.
What thoughts do you have about the idiomatic phrase of being “in the same boat?”
For me, it’s a phrase that symbolizes unity and the need for cooperation. In these modern times, I think we all go through similar problems, so being “in the same boat” means working together to beat obstacles, find solutions, and support each other, even if we are close or not. We are all interconnected in some way, starting with those we live with at home, our communities, our countries and the planet itself. We face similar challenges and experiences.
What is your hope for the future?
I would like to see a future where we recognize how important the well-being of our planet is and protect the natural world. Future generations deserve to experience the wonders of nature. As an artist, I hope that art continues to be a vital channel for raising awareness and inspiring action. Through art, we have the power to deliver important messages about conservation and the cooperation needed to achieve a harmonious future.
What is one thing you suggest people can do to act like we’re all in the same boat?
We need to promote a sense of global citizenship. Our individual actions can have an impact on the planet and our fellow human and animal beings, which means we need to educate ourselves more about issues like climate change and contamination. Because the more we understand these problems, the more we empathize with those directly affected. This empathy and understanding towards others, regardless of their cultural, social, or economic backgrounds, is what will truly lead us to find solutions as a global community.
